View Full Version : Netgar DG834Gv4 connection loss every time I reboot

Hi all,

Hopefully someone can help me with this...:)

I bought a Netgear NG834Gv4 Wireless modem router the other day, installed it using the cd and everything went fine. All lights are as they should be, PC wired and Playstation wireless. Both connected to the internet, no problems at all.

I get up the following morning, switch on the PC, no internet! all the lights on the router are lit correctly. In vista network and sharing center it says unknown network and a red cross before Internet.

I reset the router and ran the install again and got the same problem. The only way I'm able to get it to work is if I restore vista to a couple of days ago and reinstall the router, but every time I reboot I lose the connection and have to repeat the process!

The only other strange thing I have noticed is that during reinstalling the router, vista detects an ip conflict and that another computer on this network has the same ip.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem might be? :s

Many thanks :)

Are the PC and Playstation both using DHCP to get the IP address?
The Routers defaults config will have it running as a DHCP server dishing out addresses in the range of 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0 255 (or something similar).

Make sure both PC and PS are setup to receive an IP address by DCHP and it should solve your problem as it sounds as if one of the devices may have a fixed IP address.

Many thanks for your reply.

Yes, both the PC and playstation are set to receive IP address by DCHP .
Rebooted about an hour ago and to go through the procedure again :(

Ensure that DHCP is set to 'ON' on your router.

Well, all looks fine on there so not really sure what to advise now. Might be something to do with Vista but I hate it and still use XP Pro, so I can't really advise you further, sorry. Maybe someone on here will be able to help you, so good luck, anyway, hope you get it sorted.

One think you could try is hard-coding the IP addressing on your network. If you've only got two or three devices then it isn't hard to manage.

Cheers,

Garan.

Thanks for the replys folks...
I have now discovered that after I switch the pc on and can't connect, if I go into device manager and disable and then re-enable my network card unknown network changes to network 2, the big red cross disapears and I can connect!:)

This is alot easier than doing a restore and rebooting the router ! but I'm still curious as to why this happens ?

Did you try updating the network driver? my niece had a similar problem with vista, it might be worth a try to go into device manager and uninstall then reboot your pc and installing the latest driver for your network card

Just doing a repair on the connection may also reset it, (instead of re-enabling the network card)
right click icon and diagnose and repair.

Deezel has a good idea there, also if the network card, is an integrated part of the motherboard then you may want to see if there are any firmware updates for you motherboard
