Hi
Just wondering really why for the past week my net has taken like 1 min to load a single page which normally takes under a second. on the 28th im upgrading my account to one with 800 upload, just so you know if you need to contact bt or whatever. i know personally my line can handle 4 meg internet easily, but for some reason i only get about 2 of that. my account thing says my downstream is set at 1728 with interleaving on auto. Could you please get bt to check my line again so i can get 4mb. (i had 4mb from tiscali on the 1st few days of the 10 day stabilisation... it was stable, but when i turned my pc off and on alot during the day, i think they thought my line couldnt handle it, so put me right down - same with adsl24. what ill do this time is leave my modem/pc on for the whole 10 days if possible =]
let me know
thanks alot
Please post your modem or router stats as it stands at the moment.
If the max reports are showing rates of 1728, that means your router is connecting at that sort of speed to the exchange, which is why you are seeing under 2meg speeds...
Definitely an advantage to check, double and triple check your wiring/extensions/sockets/filters are 100% as they should be - it can make a big difference - www.dslzoneuk.net/socket.php

ive already checked wiring, filters and all of that
thanks
Yep
Your modem is connected at 2432 kbps, which means your BT profile will be 2000 kbps. So you won't get over that (whoever the ISP) unless your modem connects higher. If you got over 4mb with an old ISP it's most likely your line has deteriorated. Are you connected into the master socket? Extensions and filters can go faulty at any time, even if they still work...

It might be worth changing your DNS settings. Which set are you currently using?
And also check the MTU settings Entanet recommend you use MTU: 1478
but i find 1430 works better for me....

I probably should have said also, my net was fast until about 2 weeks ago, now its really slow, and i havent had any software/hardware changes which could have affected it

You can change them from within windows, following the instructions on this page (http://www.opendns.com/start/windows_xp.php)(assuming you're using XP, although there are instructions for various other OS's too) ... using the DNS settings provided by OpenDNS.

Hi, yes i have
thanks
a wild guess i would say your about 4k from your local exchange...
you can alter your mtu with drtcp
Tweaking your MTU settings

Hi, i have already messed with my MTU etc, but it isnt helping
im actually 1.55km away from the exchange
thanks though
Your line attenuation of 57.5 is way to high then, have you tried connecting the the modem direct into the test socket on the bt master socket? Remove the bottom plate And use the right hand test socket.
Post your stats again

Hi, i have tried the above, but none of the stats changed in the slightest
could it be a case of being at the end of the line?
Line attenuation will never change (unless you move house!) - it basically shows how long the line is (which is over 3Km as the cable runs)
