View Full Version : Why no mention of ALT or Excessive Usage?

Just had a look at the new site, and was reading through the New packages.
I could find no mention of the restrictions placed on the "Free period" which is 88hours a week on the Home packages (The paid period is 80hours)

The only referance I could see is the "fair use policy" that points to Entanet
and there I could only see this quote that had any relevance.

Excessive bandwidth or Disk Utilisation

Entanet account descriptions specify current limits on bandwidth and disk utilisation. Where limits are not specifically defined the judgement of the Internet Technical Support team shall be used to define those limits. The use of bandwidth or disk space in excess of those limits is not permitted. The total number of bytes transferred from an account's Web and FTP space determines bandwidth utilisation. The total number of bytes required to store an account's Web, FTP, and Mail data determines disk utilisation.

If Entanet determines that excessive bandwidth or disk space utilisation is adversely affecting Entanet's ability to provide service, Entanet may take immediate action. Entanet will attempt to notify the account owner by e-mail as soon as possible.

So it seems that some team will decide how much we can use for over half of the week.

I think that it should be in the package details that for 88h a week you are not getting full speed and are subject to an unspecified capping by the ALT.
What do you think?

What do I think?
The days of downloading in access of 100GB @ month are gone, a backward step I know but I think you will be in the same boat whichever ISP you choose.

For the user this new system is experimental as I don’t think we will get guidelines from Entanet on a figure that would be described as heavy usage. I will be opting for the 0ffice 45 this will give me 45Gb peak, and free off peak I will use all the peak allowance and chance my arm at 55GB free time
If I am classed as a bad boy I cant do anything about it so any hidden caps Entanet have will make no difference to me, so what the hell if they want to stay tight lipped its ok with me

Isn't that extract in reference to website and email usage, not the main up/down allowance ?

No Idea Poobare, if so then there is no reference, I can find, to usage and capping vie ALT.

I suppose the one month contract will help people here, they join after looking at the "Free Usage" and only then realize that the speeds during that time are not as expected, so then leave. Would be nice to have that info up front on the website though.

Its nothing to do with ADSL - it's to to with Enta's own hosting and e-mail customers!
The website is still being updated but because the packages are not coming in to effect until 30th March Enta have until 30th Feb to clarify exactly what the ALT will do and how it will monitor usage to ensure they are giving customers 30 day notice to any change.
