View Full Version : Have speeds got slower since Central 4?

When I migrated over - 5th April - I was seeing top speed stuff, faster than my old F2S account which wasn't actually half bad for speed. I was used to seeing around 6500Kbps and I was seeing 6800Kbps in that first week.

Speeds seem to have dwindled down to around 2-3000Kbps now. I've even changed Centrals to Telehouse 1 - all Centrals are in the green with 7.2mb available.

Ping has jumped from 14 to 60.

Tested just now - Ping is at 110, speed 2015Kbps.

I have to be fair - this did not ever happen on F2S

Has Central 4 somehow made things worse?

Might just be a bad link atm as that's certainly not normal speeds/ping times :)

Not sure what you mean James - but speedtesting at Enta, speedtest.net and BT Speedtester are all producing the same results. I appreciate speed will go down after 10pm.

I got myself back onto Global 1. Slight change.

Oddly enough, about an hour ago, my internet connection just died. Sync was still there, but 'internet light' was off on the router. Rebooted router which has now placed me on Telehouse 2....

Slight nerves to say the least.

The way I look at it is, because the package i'm on now is cheaper then the 2mb package I was on with Pipex - anything over 230KB/sec is a bonus.

I was downloading a film last night at around 10.30pm and my speed was between 450KB/sec - 560KB/sec. For that time of night and with my exchange on RED (been like that for months) I was happy with the speed.

I'm 5 days into my monthly usage and i've only used 2.26GB peak bandwidth..... who needs peak bandwidth when you have a Schedule button  .

Grab "Flash Get", program the schedule to start after 10pm and stop before 8am and hit the "shutdown after download button" then go to bed.

Nick,

I was paying 4 quid more for the F2S package - and I didn't get issues like this. I was on about 5-6.5mb connection and yes, my exchange is on red as well. My profile is 7150. I'll admit that F2S wasn't perfect either - but something isn't right here.

When you get used to those speeds - you expect them to continue - especially when Entanet are rated so highly.

I think you're slightly missing my point. I know how to schedule(you can do this within Utorrent) and I expect some sort of slowdown after 10pm - but not things to start slowing down AFTER they installed Central 4 and all centrals are showing green with 7.2mb available BEFORE 10pm.

how do you mean ur exchange is on red? Is there a website which shows the health of the exchanges?

Most exchanges are on RED as they have capacity issues...
