View Full Version : bRAS Profile reset if new isp?
Hi there
I believe i have a stuck bRas profile as my line is syncing at speeds of 8128 d/l and my current isp is reluctant to do anything about it saying the max speed for my line is 2000k. Am i within my rights to ask for this profile to be reset and let it train again for it to get to the max speed available as i seem to get different reports regarding my max speed and what my bRS profile shoud be.
I am reluctant to change provider again unless i am guaranteed that i will get greater speeds of more than 2000k.
Any help would be appreciated
Many thanks Alan
If you migrate the training period may well start again, in which case that may fix the problem. If not, and you still end up on 2000k, we can pass that as a fault with BT for you after the 10days
No ISP will guarantee speeds as there are so many factors but if you sync at 8128 then your profile sould be 7150 giving you up to 7Mb speed

Hi James
I have passed these details on to my current isp (fast4) but they say it is not a stuck profile so i asked them to report it to bt to reset my profile and see if it corrects it and as yet the ticket is still open so i am left in limbo. I dont know what they have to do whether it is to just click at a switch at the exchange which is collyhurst. Lie you say if sync is 8128 surely my profile should be more than 2000k. I lve 640 metres from my exchange. Here are my router stats

If you can understand them lol
Stats are spot on - very good line. Your old ISP need to log a fault with BT as a stuck profile else it will never get fixed. BT sometime do it in a few days, others they take weeks with (good old BT). But we'd certainly get it fixed for you one way or the other (we keep pestering them until they fix it)
Collyhurst eh - about 5 minutes from me...

Request a migration code from not so fast 4 and move to adsl24.
Customer complaints for adsl24 must be at a low James is twiddling is thumbs waiting for a someone to moan and complain about the service.
James is starting to help other providers Customers with there problems this must be a first…..
:)
When I see a problem I can't help but try to solve it :)

One thing about ADSL24 they do actually try to get things fixed and will pester BT to do something about a problem.

Yes support at ADSL24 is first class, it's a great ISP I can't really see where there can be another one anywhere near as good.
yorkie.
i just spoke to a bt engineer who said my line is capable of 7.6 speeds as he was round at my flat whilst i was away and a friend let him do the check, he connected the line up to his laptop and did some checks but i think he bypassed my isp? i spoke with him over the phone and told him that my profile was only 2000k and he said this was wrong. he said he could not sort it as he was only checking to see if there was a line fault and i had to ask my isp to reset my ip profile or they ask the right dept of bt, now i am in limbo again untill fast4 get back in touch once they have seen the engineers report confirming that i should get speeds of 7.6mb
Yeah, it is the ISP who have to report stuck profiles. We get lots of them, and we pester BT until they uncap the line :)
Hi James
I told fast4 it was a stuck profile and stupid people sent an engineer round to my flat and he said he could not do anything to reset the profile but my isp should be able to or ask the right dept of bt to do this, he has already confirmed that i get speeds of 7.6 on my line but i told him when i do the speed check it shows a profile of 2000k which he said is incorrect but i dont how he bypassed my isp to do the speed check on my line but he is sending his report in and fast4 will receive it shortly
