Hi James,
As discussed the other evening, I have had a visit from BT about my stuck profile.
The engineer has done a line test and a woosh test and both have come out fine.
In fact when the line was plugged into his laptop, the speed was reading almost
9000 kbps!
He said he can't understand why I'm not getting up to 8 meg.

I'm not sure if any of the following info will help you, but....

I used to be with Tiscali, and I understand that they cap 8meg to around 2?
When downloading, I never get above about 230 kbps.
My modem is a zoom adsl X3 and these are the latest numbers from the status page...

ADSL Status Showtime/Data
Downstream Speed 7616 Kbps
Upstream Speed 448 Kbps
Standard Multimode

Local Remote
SNR Margin 12.5 dB 0.0 dB
Line Attenuation 22.0 dB 11.0 dB
Transmit Power 11.95 dB 19.77 dB

Counters Local Remote
Interleaved Fast Interleaved Fast
CRC: 3 0 0 0
FEC: 10 0 0 0
HEC: 2 0 0 0

I think the engineers report which he did on his lap top basicly said.... refer back to ISP

Many thanks

Richard

Please run another speedtest now...

His modem might not be restricted to the stuck profile....

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7616 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1856 kbps

No change I'm afriad.. Well, actualy I think its about 10kbps faster :)

Hi James,
Just did a speed test as you requested, and no change I'm afriad.
If BT said they have raised the profile and it should take effect today, did that mean first thing today, or at some point today ?

Many thanks for all your efforts btw:)

Hi James, Any luck with BT ?

Seems odd that BT should say that the profile has been raised when it clearly hasn't ?

Mind you looking on the Tiscali forums (I miss the rants!) with the amount of people there that have the same problem I rekon BT are swamped!

Yeah, BT are being really awkward with stuck profiles with all ISP's at the moment. I guess lower profile = less bandwidth through their network. Doh. Will get back on to them...
