Hello to all in the world of ADSL24,

I have been going through the migration process in the last couple of days and am transferring over to ADSL24 from Eclipse on Thursday 26th April.

I'm currently on an 8mbps package with Eclipse but due to my distance from the exchange (around 6.5km - 7km, even though I'm a small 1.4km from my own towns exchange, frustrating is not the word!!!) I only sync at 1344kbps downstream. I had the BT engineers out when I moved in last year and they installed a faceplate with integrated filter on the master socket and disabled sending the ADSL signal to other points in the house to strengthen the connection.

Here are my router stats:

Connection Speed- Down: 1344 kbps Up: 448 kbps
Line Attenuation- Down: 63 db Up: 15.5 db
Noise Margin- Down: 5 db Up: 14 db

My speeds are fairly constant, pulling a max of about 110kB/s down and sending at full speed (47kB/s). Unfortunately though my BT profile states that I can only obtain a 512 connection. After speaking to the very helpful people here at ADSL24 I decided to go for the Home 500 package as it should lower some of my stats and help the reliability of the connection with it being a fixed speed rather than a Max package.

I was just wondering if there is anything I can do to gain more speed in the future? It is not a problem going onto the 500 package but I'm just wondering on whether I'm consigned to this speed at this house for the forseeable future??? I know I'll be getting a better, more reliable connection for it but will be missing out on quite a few precious kB/s.

Anyone's views or opinions would be appreciated.

Unless the line to your exchange is replaced - there is not much you can do I'm afraid. In the future though, when 21CN is deployedi n your area, you will see higher speeds. Check out http://www.switchedonuk.org/

One you are on the fixed 512k speed, we may be able to put a manual order through and get you on the fixed 1Mb (if BT allow it)

James :)

Well everything has gone well and I've been connected a few days and the speed is great. I have just received my first invoice but the total is £22.50 +VAT = £26.44, whereas it states on your pricing that the package i'm on is £23.99 inc. VAT. Just wondering why this is???

It definitely is 23.99. For some reason it got entered at the wrong price. I've made the change and I will now give it to you for 22.99 per month every month because of our mistake.

Why thank you, now that's what I call customer service.

Hopefully will be able to move up to the fixed 1meg package if BT allow the order after the 10 day period.

Hi James,

Would it be possible now to enquire to BT about a possibility of getting 1meg on the line??

James

We can certainly have a go for you. Do you want the 1Mb uncapped?

Yes, it would be for the 1meg uncapped.

I will order this with BT now for you. There is a one-off £5+vat regrade fee to change actual BT products, is that ok?

The regrade will happen on the 16th if we order it today.

Hi James,

The speed upgrade has been great, but over the last 2-3 days It would seem as though the speed has been limited to a 512 speed. Could it be possible that my profile's been moved onto a 512 due to my stats?? Is there anyway we could get BT to manually put my profile to 1meg???

Many thanks,

Rich

No, there is no "profile" on 1Meg as its a fixed speed, not a max speed service, so you should get up to 1Mb all the time...

I'll check our end for you now... in the meantime, can you do a BT speedtest?

James
