Just a quick question.

I know it's off peak, but is it normal for the download speeds to fluctuate so much? One minute it's downloading at 450 kbps the next it's 150 kbps. This is using the same source as a test (Speedtest.net). Pings seem to vary greatly also, anything between 30 ms and 100ms also from the same source, certainly not ideal for online gaming! Upload speeds seem quite a bit off 448 kbps also, I'm struggling to get 280 kbps.

It's not normal no.

Please post some traceroute results to bbc.co.uk, adsl24.co.uk and google.com

Also, run a speedtest @ http://speedtester.bt.com and let us know your router speed/stats.

Thanks

James

One minute later re-run

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.

DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 5664 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)

Tracert seems fine

tracert adsl24 is showing consistent pings of around 34 - 35ms as is asdl24.co.uk. Tried pinging my router also, 1ms constantly. No issues there.

The speed just seems to fluctuate quickly, certainly alot more so that my last connection to BT.

Cheers, James.

I think it may be because I'm on Central 1 and it has been reporting nearing full capacity. It's gone green again.

Also I don't trust the speedtest on Speedtest.net, the ping seems to change randomly. Tracert proves that the pings are consistant.

No, I dont trust the speedtest.net site either. The figures above look decent and don't show any problems. Let us know how you get on.
