hi all , i just recieved my MAC code from tiscali and will be going with adsl24. the reason why i am migrating to adsl24 is because its the only ISP i have seen so far that actually states what you will get for your money i.e £19.99 30gig peak and 300gig offpeak + no throttling or blocking ports etc ,unlike most ISP`s that advertise unlimited then you find out the hard way that it isnt true and the speeds suck and your not alllowed to do anything at peak times except surf and send the occasional email .
but couple of questions. my SNR is 12db download and 25db upload when not downloading or anything and just checking it via the router, we live about 450metres away form the exchange as the bird flys. over 6 years ago we had a phone line i.e # 1111111111 then 6 years ago we had another line installed #222222222 upstairs (guessing its split from the main socket) then 4 years ago when broadband arrived here we canceled the old # 1111111111 and kept the new number upstairs #222222222 . then moved the phone socket downstairs.
so where the line from outside enters the house is connected to the main socket on the windowledge, from that socket there is a cable running into this room which is the #222222222 which we use now, and on the windowledge is the old #1111111111 which is also still connected to the main socket, not sure what cables where used for the #22222222 line from the main socket to this room, but would removing the old #111111111 completly including the wires and socket and renewing the cable to twisted bt cable on the #2222222222 line , would that increase the SNR and make our broadband connection more stable etc
reason i ask is because bt says on adsl max our line will support 2mb, but when doing a line check on one of bt site it says 2mb but we can also get get adsl max from 6.5mb to 8mb
thnxs for any replys and hopefully be connected soon after i do the migrating and give the mac code
