Firstly hi to all

Now nitty gritty .... I only just got connected to ADSL24 on thursday evening (8th may) and had an IP Profile of 1000 . Maybe not great to alot of people but moving from a bad 512 with Orange it was a massive improvement and able to d/load over the weekend @ 110kbps .... well that was until sunday afternoon when I reconnected and my profile dropped to 750 .... now doing well to get close to 70 kbps . So my question does the profile change often and how long on average does it take to increase again as Im still on it and its monday afternoon :( Thanks

It can take upto 10 days, best to keep router on 24/7 for a while to get profile up.

Does the training period start again after migration?

BT Wholesale do not offer any clear advice as to whether the training period starts again after a migration, so we are unable to say for sure. What we have noticed is that some connections end up having a stuck IP Profile, whereby their speed is restricted to 2 Mb (2000 kb) immediately after migration.

While this should solve itself after a few days, if it does not, please contact us with the results of a BT Speedtest and we can look into this and log the fault with BT Wholesale if necessar

I wish I was stuck on 2mb ! In fact when the Govn. said everyone would get a min. of 2mb I was one of the few that cheered :) I live at the extreme distance from my tele exchange incase you thought Id lost my marbles.

It don't normally take that but leave your router on and if it don't get any better raise a ticket, or raise a ticket anyway but do a BT speedtest first they need that

Ok will do cheers .... only other thing is I have a request in (due to be carried out tomorrow) to turn interleaving off .... will this have an adverse impact ?

seekdestroy

interleaving (fast path) should increase your speed slightly and decrease your ping, i found that it increased my speed by more than 500kb. And my ping fell from 50-60ms to 10-20ms. However, the line may become more unstable, but not much for me :P Apart from me messing with my SNR too much :P

Ok cheers .... no harm in trying then. Suppose it can always be changed back if connection quality drops .... and the ping reduction would be a major bonus as my pings have shot way way up since moving over to ADSL24 with interleaving on (auto) . Fingers crossed :)

You need interleaving off for fast path,

yorkie.

yeah Yorkie I know thats why it was turned off this morning .... ping dropped slightly but not by a massive amount like seekdestroy and cant tell if my overall speed has increased as Im still stuck on the 750 Ip Profile :(

Should I reboot router or just let it be for a few days ?

the odd reboot wont hurt and have you raised a ticket?

Ok nothing changed .... when I raise a ticket do i have to screenshot the speed tests and email them in or are do ADSL24 recieve a copy as well after the test?

Reply this morning:

Hello,

I can understand your download speed has dropped however BT's systems set an IP Profile based on the sync speed you connect to at the exchange which must have dropped, your IP Profile will rise if your sync speed increases back to what it used to have.

576 - 863 = IP Profile: 500
864 - 1151 = IP Profile: 750
1152 - 1439 = IP Profile: 1000

Yours,

So guess as mentioned before I leave it on and hope for the BT best :(

IP Profile back up to 1000 :) .... still thinking about moving to the new LLU package to get shot of Ip Profiling though.

Whats your router stats?

I am at the extremities of line length, had to force BT to give me ADSL 5 years ago. 63.9db down.
Best was interleaving on, tried auto and off had profiles of sub 500 and 750 for many many months.
My speeds did increase this year probably due to less pocketing in available bandwidth to around 1400 IP 1250 at time of migration.

Mine was slightly worse attenuation, although i did have numerous errors and average 6 drop outs a day since March, Jan Feb 100's a day.
See how the change goes, leave it a week then change back to On. Should see 1500 or close to at best.
Cant get at line stats but from memory it went downhill fast when switched off IP 300?, 500, 750 and rare 1000 for a couple of days last year.
Since late Jan this year to a week ago IP 1250 best 1440kb/s switched on.

Router a non Broadcom chip.
Hope this helps.
