Line stats. 46dB down attenuation, SNR usually around 6. Sync is usually solid around the 5800-6000 mark, but every few months, a wobbler is thrown. Always overnight, never during the day, and only when it's stormy or raining cats and dogs! My router disconnects, and can't re-establish a solid connection until it's given a cold reboot. Heaven knows how many times it disconnects overnight until I find out what's happened.

Of course, the SNR is thrown up to around 12-15 and my sync goes down to around 3700. Over the next few weeks (or months!) things gradually improve and it eventually gets back to normal, only for another wobbler to be thrown a few months down the line.

I have no test socket on my master socket as the line's that old, but the wiring looks fine, there are no extensions, no ring wire, filters on everything etc etc. Router is a DG834G v2 with the most up to date firmware it would take.

1) Any thoughts?

2) I can go the LLU route on my exchange and the figures my son dug out for me suggest that the 24meg package would deliver around 8-9meg for me. If I go LLU, will this let me get back to my normal sync and throughput, by manually setting my own SNR, without having to wait for British Terrorcoms to do it?

The only thing from what you describe is water affecting a BT joint somewhere, any noise on the line when you get the problem and you say you have no filters you must have at least one?

I think he means he does have filters on everything.

Yes, filters on everything. I was wondering about water getting into the BT green box outside the house, I know they've had the pumps out before nearby. MInd you, how do you get BT to investigate that unless a whole bunch of us have voice line problems?

Wondered about this as well with 63.9db attenuation. Must have spent on here 20 months at less than 1meg profile, half of which 1/2 and 3/4 meg usually in the winter.
Cables were laid approx 29/30 years ago and of course copper oxidises even with he best shielding.
Pretty much gave up on being able to get BT out to investigate last year, you cannot approach the only people that know what they are doing direct. James did all he could but BT look upon it as they only have to maintain a line suitable for bell. Having had a chat with an out of my area Openreach engineer some time ago, he told me various things. In the end came to conclusion stop an Openreach van and work something out, all i wanted was putting on te E-SIDE- minutes to do.
Even asked the question 6 months ago before Enta went down pan if i went BT for ADSL would they sort the line out- no.

Best of luck.

Have you tried a quiet test ?
The BT line test facility can be accessed from any BT (or WorldOnline) line by dialling 17070.
