View Full Version : speed question...
Well just finished migrating over today and did a quick speed test which says my connection is only 1.8mbps which with tiscali i was getting as high as 8meg would allow.
Just wondering if there is a problem or is it becouse i need to wait the 10 days for my connection to stabalize?
Anything is possible during the 10 days following migration. :)
Do the BT speedtest (http://speedtester.bt.com/) and check what your IP profile is. It may be stuck at 2000. If so it should come right either in 3 days or 10. If it doesn't normalise after 10 open a ticket with Support to get it fixed.

tryed the speed test and it says test failed
this is what it says
Performance Tester was not able to find all the network details required for telephone number:*********.
Please check that it is the correct telephone number for your service, and if not try again. If you believe it is the correct number for your service then please raise this as a fault with your service provider.
Odd - keep trying - it should work. The 1.8 Mb suggests you are on the 2000Kbps profile. This should sort itself out in the 10 day profile. If on day 10 it's still at 2000, we can log it as a fault with BT :)
I have had problems trying to use the BT Speedtester in Internet Explorer sometimes it will work OK! other times it won't , try running it in Firefox that normally works.

I get the same message under both firefox and IE 7, also not sure if this is a fault or not but under the "max reports" and "my exchange" tabs in my account when i log on neither of them show any information.
I have just run the BT Speedtester in IE 6 and Firefox and they have both worked OK!

Tibul - as you've just migrated today it's possible your details haven't found their way to the appropriate database yet, so BT can't confirm your login details. It should work for you soon, though, so keep trying.

still cant run the bt test just tryed it today, although i will say one things my downloads are much quicker especially in peak times than they ever were with tiscali even though all the speed tests i run said i had a really good speed with them.
Tibul I run the BT speedtest OK! earlier I am not sure if you have to have Java installed to run it I know you cannot run the thinkbroadband speedtest without it, perhaps James Paul or another member will come along and advise you further regarding java,

Try this one, same thing, but slightly different URL
http://test.speedtester.bt.com:50301/ (http://www.adsl24.co.uk/forum/redirector.php?url=%68%74%74%70%3a%2f%2f%74%65%73% 74%2e%73%70%65%65%64%74%65%73%74%65%72%2e%62%74%2e %63%6f%6d%3a%35%30%33%30%31%2f)
Tryed that one just now and exactly the same problem, java is installed and working fine the other java based speed tests that i have tryed also work fine, anybody got any ideas
ah the test finally worked for me today and here are the results, for some reason it says im on a 2mbps profile what do i need to do to have it changed to what its supposed to be at?
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1818 kbps
Until the first 10 days are up BT won't do anything but if its still stuck at 2000 on day 10 send us a ticket or email and we will log it with BT for you :)
Ok will do, thanks for all the help :D
