View Full Version : Bumpy Connection [25 April 2007, evening]

I'm having a very bumpy connection this evening but I'm not seeing reports of it on the Entanet blog or in your shoutbox or forum here.

Random disconnections. Has happened maybe seven or eight times over the past three or so hours. My DSL modem can redial fine, it seems, but it doesn't explain the drop in the first place.

Otherwise it's all been good so far.

Is it just me?

Does your router actually lose DSL SYNC, or just the actual connection to us? If its DSL sync, then the problem is between your line to and the exchange. What sort of setup do you have as regards to sockets, extensions and filters?

Thanks

My DSL router logs don't make a huge amount of sense to me. Perhaps this fragment will mean more to you?

That's just one block of oddities. There were more up 'til around 02:00. Thus far, today, I've not seen the same issues and my log confirms that.

My DSL router plus router-used-as-switch combination has always been a bit "peculiar" (former is a Westell ProLine 6000, latter is a dying Linksys WRT-54GS) so I'd be okay with the idea that my hardware is just dying... but I could contact my DSL router during DSL downtime just fine and even force the line back up (it'd auto-redial if I gave it enough time).

Any ideas? This me, my exchange, or something deeper in? I'm guessing, as you're putting that back to me, it's probably me or my exchange.

Edit:

Ah, yes, on sockets, extensions and filters...

My DSL router is directly plugged into a filter that came with the router. That filter plugs directly into the BT master socket. There is an extension connected to the line but it has nothing plugged into it and has never been used. And my connection has been largely stable, anyhow, since moving to ADSL24 so I'm thinking it's not a problem in there.

It seems to be losing connection to the exchange (indicated by DSL is down message). Try it without any other equipment connected (extensions/phones/faxes - so just one filter in the main socket with your router)

It may have just been one of those off times where there may have been interference in the area or down the line. See how it goes...

Well, it seems to have cleared up so I guess it was just gremlins waggling the wires or something... ;)

Thanks for the assistance.
