Hello,

Once again Im having problems with my line syncing (), this time it seems to be interference between 4.30pm and ~7pm as of last Saturday, but it seems to be mainly affecting the upstream so much that it struggles to sync with the exchange, thus leaving me internetless for that period of time. When it does manage to sync, it only sycns at 64 kbps or if im lucky 128 kbps, then it will drop, and this cycle will repeat itself until after 7pm when it goes back to normal.

My downstream noise seems to increase too within this period of time, but not so much that it affects the downstream profile.

As of this moment I am sycned at -

Connection Speed 2176 kbps 64 kbps
Line Attenuation 54 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 12 db 6 db

Normally my upstream sync would be 448kbps / 800kbps as I am on the businesss 45 package, and my downstream sync would be around ~2700 kbps.

What could be causing this at these specific times, and if it is likely to be interference what steps can I take to try and remove it, or rule it out?.

Thanks

I just done a quiet line test, and the line is fizzing even when I am doing it behind the faceplate of the master socket.

I had an engineer out last month to sort out another syncing problem...it was something about two wires in the line touching on a pole further up the road, he swapped that one over to another spare that was already there and that sorted it.

Could be some dodgy equiptment of yuor neighbours thats effecting it. 4-7pm would be the time they get home from work and turn things on?

Hmm. My nearest neighbour would probably be about 500 or 600 meters away. Would it matter how far they are away?

If you are hearing noise on the line even when there is just your phone plugged in to the main socket with no other equipment or filter, then it's a line fault and you should report this to BT on 151 as a voice fault - it's likely affecting your ADSL signal but don't mention ADSL to BT, just mention the noise on the line.

Cheers James. I called and they had me do several different things...trying different phones/filters etc... The line was still crackling even with this.

I also tried the quiet line test at my neighbours just now, and there isnt a peep out of her line...so I assume the problem is somewhere between there and here.

I hope to god they dont decide to charge for the call out though!! Just a bit expensive to put it mildly...

PS. Curious - if there is any noise at all, no matter how faint - is that enough to constitute a fault? (I had 3 people listen just to make sure I wasnt hearing things :D)
