View Full Version : SYNC speed versus download speed

Being a 2 day veteran of the LLU Service, I have a SYNC of 14291 kbps or so, tweaked by Joe.

Actual download speed is between 2 -7 megabits/s.

The connection is most stable with the default SNP settings. Even with those I can count to 10 before a web page loads. I do not know the cause of the latency.

If I move to the 8 megabit capped service, I will be capped at 8128 megabits/s.

Will my download speeds then be 1 - 3 megabits/s?

Thats certainly not normal. Have you done the usual, tried i nthe BT test socket, not using wireless but ethernet, tried other router and PC, changed MTU to 1500 etc?

Well, yes.

I am plugged directly into the NES5 Master via a screened 2m RJ11 Lead. Router is DG834GT running DGTeam firmware. Thence via screened ethernet lead to HomePlug and on to Gigabit switch. Cut line 3 in the Master socket on wired voice extension.

Data

MTU is 1500

Oh yes..ran the speedtest on both computers - similar result.

Removed instrumented firmware - back to standard Netgear - and lowered SNR to 3dB.

Speed now 9.5 megabits/s according to dsl zone.

Let's hope this is stable

SYNC 12591 kbps

SNR put back to 6dB for stability.

Getting 8-9 megabits/s with 12459 kbps SYNC.

Opinions?

Anyone have a favoured firmware version for the DG834GT, rather than just the latest?

That's looking good. I too went back to the stock Netgear firmware as I saw what you have seen :)

FWIW, I'm getting more consistency from the penultimate firmware, 1.02.16, than 1.02.19

Using DSLZone for speed testing

I'll stay with this 24 megabit service, I suppose, and see how it goes for a reasonable period.
