Ok James I updated the firmware (ran a scan to make sure I d/loaded correct update) and reconfigured the router to the LLU settings .... same as before it was showing connected but no webpage would load .... tried different settings but to no avail. Switched back to the cough cough Orange router and connecting first time everytime: fastest speed so far was this morning at over 1400kbps (not bad for a 9km telephone line !) upload almost 800kbps. the only thing I still have to sort now is my wireless connection as Ill be damned if I can get anything to connect (yip its on;) ) but failing that I can always upgrade to a new router.
Once again James I would like to thank you and express the point that in all my days of internet / ISP hassles (not with yourselves!) Ive never experienced customer service like this. You and your team are a credit to us all !

No James the thanks is all mine m8 ... just to add got the wireless sorted ... dont know how yet but its working ! Oh and here is the sync / speed info with router set for ADSL 2+
Downstream rate: 1270 kbps
Upstream rate: 827 kbps
PPPoE pass-through: Enabled
ADSL Line
Status: Cable connected
Line mode: G.992.5 (ADSL2+)
Maximum line rate: 1270 kbps (downstream) / 827 kbps (upstream)
Noise margin: 6 dB (downstream) / 5 dB (upstream)
Line attenuation: 67 dB (downstream) / 40 dB (upstream)
Output power: 21 dBm (downstream) / 12 dBm (upstream)
this was connecting at peak time and slightly slower than the adsl conn (albeit upload speed faster) but still not bad at all :)
Your downstream seems very slow for your line attenuation
Connection Speed 2019 kbps 667 kbps
Line Attenuation 72.5 db 44.0 db
Noise Margin 2.7 db 2.9 db

Naaa happy as a piggie in the perverbiable .... Im on just about as long a telephone line as you could stretch and making the jump from (pre ADSL24 I might add) 512kbps to this and a customer support that money couldnt pay for :) ... and if I splash some extra cash on a decent router Im sure I can pull in another few kbps
My line attenaution is higher than yours and also a very long line, which BT only guaranteed 512 for though I used to get 1Mb sometimes by using DMT. I'm now running at 1.9-2.3Mb
It's wondeful!
The longer the line the more it can be a big difference in speed of course as someone could be 9k from the exchange but have a perfect copper line whereas someone at only 5k could have a poor(er) line and end up wirh worse
