Hi, I'm migrating to ADSL24, had enough of tiscali giving me 30kb/s in the evenings :[

At the moment my setup is a 20m telephone line extension cable connected from the telephone socket to a micro filter, then a router, pc. Is this a bad way to have things setup, wondering if I should scrap the extension and relocate the router to allow me connect the microfilter straight into a telephone socket or doesn't it make a difference?

Thanks

Welcome to ADSL24 watchy I have mine setup the same using an extenstion cable and get speeds over 6Mb but if it is possible I would connect the router directly to the master socket using a micro filter of course,

It can make a big difference. What are your router stats atthe moment?

Hi James,

My router is also on an extension line, along with two telephones on extensions. Since it's a wireless router, I could re-site it near the master socket, but would still require the extensions for the phones. To re-site the router means a wiring job to get a mains supply to it, so would it be worth it?

Two questions.
1) I've been with ADSL24 more than 10 days, so would a move give any benefit available? i.e. would the line speed improve naturally over time or would BT have to be asked to start a re-synch?
2) Is removing the extensions (and changing to a DECT cordless phone setup) likely to be worthwhile? Again, I could only do this if I create a supply point near the master socket, and if I can find a DECT phone that my wife likes

My current connection stats from the router:

Line Mode G.dmt Line State Show Time
Latency Type Interleave Line Up Time Duration 06:17:23:45
Line Coding Trellis On Line Up Count 3

Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 8096 Kbps 448 Kbps
Attainable Line Rate 10592 Kbps 1228 Kbps
Noise Margin 12.3 dB 25.0 dB
Line Attenuation 16.5 dB 7.0 dB
Output Power 12.3 dBm 17.8 dBm

There is no difference between the two so the extension is ok.

You would get around 2-2.5mb with those stats! :)

Thats cool, I assume there is nothing wrong with my setup / line and that the values are pretty normal for someone with my sort of distance to exchange?

Thanks for all the help, only a few more days until I'm activated :O

Yes - thats a decent line for the distance!
