View Full Version : POLL: Usage e-mail reports?
I am looking at possibly developing a system whereby you can subscribe to usage reports via e-mail (on a daily/weekly basis etc).
So basically, you can turn it on/off from your My account page and if on, you will be e-mailed your daily and monthly total usage so far each morning.
If we go ahead with this, it will be a work in progress so can not be relied upon 100%, but it will show the details you can see if you log in to your My account page and go to the Usage section (text based for e-mail of course) so as long as Entanet's stats are correct, all should be well.
What do you all think? Will it be useful for you?
Any comments and suggestions welcomed....
James
I think its a great idea, i often forget to check how much bandwidth i've used so it would be go to have a second source of reminder.

Would you split this into the peak and off-peak ? I could then back off my peak usage to avoid extra costs for going over my 30 gig limit.
Yes, it would be like we have it in the My account page (see http://adsl24.co.uk/myaccount_overview.php for screenshots of usage page)

I would really like that, I need to keep a check on my usage and that would make things easier.
That would be pretty useful.
I wonder how difficult it would be to create a Vista sidebar gadget that fetched the stats once a day, I suppose a simple xml page on the server end if you access a simple URL could be parsed to display this.
Hmm..

Not a bad idea, but as Entanet's usage only updates once a day (midnight) anyway there would not be any real advantage to it over sending a single e-mail.

Just in case you're bored James you could also have a subscription whereby you get notified if you get within 10% say of your peak or off peak allowance.
Now...........What can I find for you to do AFTER dinner?? ;)

Good idea - will be implemented.
I very much like the idea of an email warning that the stats have reached 90% for either peak or off peak usage (i.e. only 10% allowance left). Although I've voted 'Yes' in the poll, there's no need here for regular daily/weekly mails, I can be disciplined enough to check for myself on an occasional basis.

In which case we will have two options in the My account page:
a) Notify me daily of my usage
b) Notify me when I have 10% or less remaining

Some more notifications to add to the list:
Notify me when:
c) my overdraft limit is about to run out:(
d) kettle has boiled :)
e) I am being burgled
f) of the whereabouts of my keys when I can't find them
Can you manage that James?
Any other ideas guys?
I thought of creating one that says "Notify me when another Tiscali user signs up" but it would probably overload the server
An invaluable tool for all us that can’t even remember what day of the week it is let alone remember to check our usage stats
nice one james do the gogs ever stop turning?
This has now been implemented! To see the available options, log in to your My account page, go to Usage reports and then hit the "Email reports" link and choose your preferred option.

Great! Many thanks James.
In a similar vein to this, someone on the entachoice forums has made a Windows utility which will login to the Enta billing site and download your useage for you, in a little program that sits in your windows taskbar..

Looks handy - would be good if he did it for linux too (no Windows here ;) ).
So far the e-mails seem to work great for me :)
