View Full Version : How long should the switch-over take?

I lost connection with the old system at about 4pm. I reset the router (Netgear DG834GT)according to the website instructions and waited the recommended twenty minutes before reconnecting.

The router is showing a connection to something but neither web pages or e-mails are loading.

The Connection Status window is showing "--" for all values, but the Router Status window shows:

ADSL Firmware Version A2pB022c.d20e
Modem Status Connected
DownStream Connection Speed 7104 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 835 kbps
VPI 0
VCI 101

and the current stats are:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7104 kbps 835 kbps
Line Attenuation 45.5 db 25.1 db
Noise Margin 12.4 db 6.5 db

What's interesting about that Connection Speed is that it has been steadily climbing from about 5900 since the disconnection, so at least something appears to be going on.

Do I just need to wait this out and hope its a BT engineer eeking out the overtime, or is something not right and needs attention?

Have you changed the multiplexing to LLC from VC?

Have you changed the multiplexing to LLC from VC?

I've done everything on the LLU ADSL +2 Router Setup Instructions page linked to in the e-mail I got confriming the move.

I dont think it's been switched, as I have just ran a test on your exchange and it comes back stating it's not on the LLU port yet, so BT have not switched it across yet. This can sometimes happen (it may get done in the morning etc) but I would suggest changing your settings back to the default ADSL ones (PPPoA, VPI 0 VCI 38 etc) and see if that works still? The noise margin on your line stats also indicate its still on the BT network as your Noise Margin will be around 6 once you are switched.

Have just tried that and still no connection. The Connection Status window is now showing "LCP is allowed to come up" against Negotiation, which is what happened when the lines were severed earlier in the year.

ETA: I thought it might have been the router using the old username@adsl.enta.net so I changed it to @adsllogin.co.uk - still no joy

I logged a fault with BT regarding this today as it still doesn't appear to have switched over properly.

Now this is just weird...

I now have what looks like an LLU connection:

Connection Speed 8751 kbps 1239 kbps
Line Attenuation 46.5 db 25.8 db
Noise Margin 6.4 db 6.6 db

...and...

Connection Status

IP Address 78.86.140.112
Subnet Mask 255.255.254.0
Default Gateway 78.86.140.1
DHCP Server 82.132.253.111
DNS Server 87.194.255.155
Lease Obtained 2009-06-17 18:26:22
Lease Expires 2009-06-18 06:26:22

BUT it can only be accessed from computers with a wireless connection and not from the desktop that the Router is plugged into. A quick skim of similar problems on other forums suggests that it might be the router mucking up IP address allocation, but at this point I'm open to any suggestions.

Thats definitely LLU'd now and with the IP showing as 78.86.140.112 that's correct. Might be a DNS thing, make sure your network card settings on the desktop PC are set to obtain automatically (they could be set manually to the old DNS servers etc)

The speed has also gone up!

Changed the network card settings and it's now working absolutely fine. Many many thanks; it's this level of service that made me want to stay with adsl24. Brilliant!
