My router (netgear DG834G V3) has been sitting on 570kbs downstream for the last few days :(

Changed microfilters, several reboots with no success.

See below:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 570 kbps 883 kbps
Line Attenuation 47 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 31 db 6 db

I used to get over 4000 kbps downstream :s

I'm 2 km from my exchange (as crow flies).

What's going on? Is my profile stuck?

What does the BT Speedtest (http://www.speedtester.bt.com/) tell you?

i think i have a stuck profile too:

tested on BT speedtester :/

Your DSL connection rate: 4364 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 732 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 3500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 916 kbps

IP profile for your line is - 500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 99 kbps

Why o why? :o My profile has hit rock bottom.....:(

Thanks FFox, took your advice and did the BT speedtester - phoned support and hey presto BT have managed to cap me to 500kbps!! How nice of them to do so. Should be resolved in 12 hours or less.

Your profile is 500 kbps because you are syncing at 750 kbps, you are syncing at 750 kbps because your noise margin is 31db.

The several reboots you did won't have helped matters if they were in quick succession , the DLM (Dynamic Line Management) will have seen this as an unstable line and raised the target SNR to a crazy level.

The DLM is quick to raise the SNR but slow to lower it, you will have to leave the router in sync for several days before there is any movement, you are lucky if it does in in under 10 days but unlucky if it takes 20 days. The SNR will reduce in steps, the normal increments are 15,12,9,6 and 3, the less interference on your line the lower you will go.

Days?????? It took months for mine to return to 6db.

My experience was:-
15>12 20 days
12>9 20 days
9>6 2 days
6>3 4 days

All because I tested a neighbour's duff router, never again!!
It now staying at 3.

How does that explain the fact i was 4500kbps less than a month ago?

4500kbps is correct for 47dB attenuation.
The target SNR was raised because of dropouts/interference on your line, the interference could be either on the BT line or in your installation.

What was the SNR when you were getting 4500kbps?

Cant remember :( Keeping a close eye just now and its already dropped to 28.

Just got home and completed a speedtest

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 3127 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 445 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 2500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 304 kbps

Will it take a while to speed up now?

Yeah that's not good.... I get (on LLU with a 3dB target)
Downstream: 3237 kbps
Upstream: 1088 kbps
With 66dB attenuation

Got my ip profile back up last night after a week of a 250kbps profile:o yesterday morning i rang support and was told they would send a fault with stuck profile. Rang again at dinner time still nothing and they said they would ring BT to sort it. 6pm rang again still no change they rang BT while i was on hold told to turn off router and wait 10mins. Bang back up to 5000kbps. Take about going round in circles:rolleyes: Hole week of 250 profile for a 10 min fix:rolleyes:
