Since being upgraded to ADSL2 on the 10th my sync's have been getting worse. On ADSL1 I had a attenuation of 36, a SNR of 10 and would sync at ~7200.

The first night of ADSL2 the attenuation went up to 39 and I synced at ~9500. The day after the connection got stuck syncing at 6656 with a SNR of 15. Despite reconnecting the router would always sync at exactly 6656.

Last night the router reconnected at 4544 with an SNR of over 20 and again is stuck at 4544 every reconnect.

What is going on!?

It looks like BT's DLM is increasing your target SNR margin. Is your router reconnecting frequently?

Nope, just when it's connected slower apart from the few times I've turned it on and off to try and get a better sync.

You seem to have been given a capped profile. This happened to me. It is BT's punishment for re-connecting your router. It is a terrible system, if for any reason you disconnect BT raise the SNR margin. Beyond a certain point, 15 dBs, they fix the sync speed.

If you can keep connected for at least 14 days without any drop out, you might get back to 15 dBs, then 12 and so on.

We are all sick of it.

Anderoo. The worst thing you can do is to keep turning off your router. Every time you do that the DLM thinks the line has dropped out, and you are back to square one.

I've only done it a few times when trying to tweak the SNR with routerstats (which doesn't work anymore).

This seems far worse than the system used on ADSL1!? Why on earth would you cap the sync rate! ADSL1 was stable with an SNR of 10, why would ADSL2 need 20. If my connection drops again am I going to end up on 3 meg or less!?

I wish we could set the Target SNR ourselves and the IP profile was reset on each sync, BT's system is broken.

Similar problem here, only been on ADSL2 for a few weeks, I have no choice but to re-boot the router on a number of occasions when the download speed has dropped very low or had no internet at all, I suspect on each occasion they did something at the exchange and as we know you cant get the sync speed back unless you re-boot the router.

As a result my IP profile has been dropped, yet no problem my end as had a healthy SNR margin of 15db.

So it seems to me that BT's poor system doesnt even take into account any work they do at the exchange which forces customers to re-boot their routers.

When they get mobile broadband more reliable and cheaper then perhaps people can ditch BT for good and this may then force them to have a half decent service and become customer orientated as opposed to operational.

It is an appalling system. Even if the re-boot is necessary because they have done something at the exchange, which happens quite often, it still seems to count against us as far as the DLM is concerened.

The very act of changing SNR on the router, needs a reconnect, and it isn't easy to see how to do it without upsetting BT.

Arrrrrrrghghgh!
