hi, looking for a quick bit of advice,

recently moved house out my parents so at the moment i have no BB connection and my line is clear. ADSL 24 is at the top of the list at the moment. my question is my computer is wirelessly enabled as i was on my parents network when i lived there but in my new house the computer is upstairs and the main/only phone connection is downstairs, what i want to do is using a wireless router like http://www.dsldepot.co.uk/product_details.asp?idProduct=655(used netgear before and have a netgear card in the comp) or http://www.dsldepot.co.uk/product_details.asp?idProduct=851 set up the network as it was wirelessly and i will not have the computer physically connected to the line in any way. Is it possible to set this up or do i require to plug the computer into the router to set it up before connecting wirelessly.

Hope that makes sense

It makes sense.

In theory yes you can do what you want. Presuming the router comes with no security already setup then you can connect to it through the wireless, change all the settings on the router and then apply them. You could then modify your wireless connection on your PC to match your router and as long as they're all the same it should work. The gotcha is that if it doesn't work you have no access to change any of the settings.

It's probably easiest to setup the wireless side of the rouuter next to your PC. Get this all up and running with WPA(2 if possible) then at least if you get it wrong you can use a cable to plug in to the LAN port (presuming your PC has one) and change the router as necessary. Once that's done move th router downstairs and setup the ADSL connection.

Either that or ask a mate with a laptop to call round.

Does THAT make sense??

That makes sense, I'll plug the router into the computer, sort the settings then, plug it into the phone line. I had thought about borrowing a laptop, but that would make things easy. I'm pretty sure my computer has a network card anyhow (can't cheack at the moment as i'm at work offshore)
