Hi,

I have recently got an email domain with Purple Cloud to give myself some independence.

If I migrate to ADSL24 (currently on FreeUK 512k, MAC in hand) will there be any issues with using the "external" email domain? I'm using Outlook as my email client.

Supplementary question: - any issues with transfering from 512K to MAX?

Thanks.

No problem at all with the e-mail retrieval. We don't block any ports.

Can you post your modem/router stats for your current 512k connection?

Thanks James.

I'm at work at the moment - I'll post my stats tonight.

I'm on 512k because that was all that was available at the time and I've been too lazy to change!

The availability checker says

"Your line can can support up to 2 Mbps (2048 Kbps) fixed speed services according to BT's database.

Your line can also support an estimate of 7000 Kbps on the up to 8 Mbps (8128 Kbps) services."

I was more worried about whether there would be a delay caused by changing the profile, i.e. would I transfer on 512k then have to transfer to MAX.

That looks promising. :)

No, transfer directly to MAX.

Cheers Ircsum.

The BT checker used to be much more pessimistic - at one point it was saying that 1024k was the best I would manage but even then it wasn't a given. I guess BT have got their act together a bit more over the last few years.

Yeah - you will go straight on to Max with us.

I have a Draytek router, it says...

SNR Margin: 35.0
Loop Att. 44.0

35? That's remarkably good for an attenuation of 44. If it's correct - your going to be 6-8Mbps ish

Occasionally it says 34.5 instead of 35.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for 6-8MBps but I expect the speed to be lower in reality - the cabinet in our road leaks and we get a fault on the line every couple of years as the connections oxidise.

I'll place the migration order on Tuesday - there's not much point before then.
