I have had no problems with my connection at all up until about 12.30pm today (Monday), mwhere it is just pathetically slow. I have rebooted both my router and OS twice in the last hour or so, but the connection is still the same. I daren't do a speed test because I know it won't be anything like what I have been getting.
Also the news server at enta.net is down all day so far.

Anyone else had same problems?
Thanks

We really need a speed test result to see what you mean by slow. Not had any reported issues at all today - so not a network problem...

This is my result from a speedtest just done.

I can't give any info on my router but its a Billion ADSL2 BiPac 7202 router

I forgot to say that I have had the same problems with 3 different OS's: WinXP, Win2k and Linux Mandriva. Now that would point to my router, so out of interest I changed the MTU from 1442 back to 1472, and did get a better speed, but still have difficulty in connecting to some sites, where I didn't this morning.

So this is my result now:

Ok after some more changes/tweaking here I did another speedtest:

I changed my Routers MTU back to 1500, as well as on the OS.
I'm happy with the speeds now.

It just shows that when people are experiencing slow speeds - they should leave it a few days to see what happens :D

I couldn't put up with that for much longer James!
I mean if I didn't change anything, then how long would I have waited to see if it improved?

No, I agree this one was a bit strange, as in dial-up speeds, but in general terms, we get some people (not just us, all ISP) who say their 4Mb connection is slow even when they are getting 3Mb etc. Speeds will fluctuate as is the nature of broadband

I can understand that I would have acted if my speeds were that low too. I am glad to see you've got it sorted!

P.S. you should always compare speed with the BT speedtest rather than the others as the BT one tells us a bit more information about your connection (sync speed, profile rate and throughput).

Ok James, I have just managed to doa BT speed test as follows:

Results Image not loaded

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 6086 kbps

If you wish to discuss these results please contact your ISP.

As I said, I'm happy with that sort of speed, as its comparable to the one at speedtest.net
