View Full Version : What does this mean?

I ran the BT speed test (I'm three days into my initial 10-day balancing period).

This is what I got...

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 6784 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1834 kbps

Does this mean I am currently limited to 2000 kbps but my line is capable of 6784 kbps? I seem to be getting only up to 2 meg but I did have around 6.5 meg on a good day with Pipex.

Can this be changed?

Thanks for any help/advice,

SS

It means BT have you on a stuck profile (2000kbps) when your profile should be around 6000 kbps.

It may change itself as you are only just into the 10 day training period, but basically your profile is set at the exchange by BT, so I've logged this with BT as a fault :)

Your profile is currently 2 Mbits, restricting your speed to a little less than that. Your current synch speed of 6784 is just short of giving you a 6 Mbit profile so, if you maintain that, you should end up with a 5.5 Mbit profile. Your current 2 Mbit profile is not unusual on a new migration and should normalise by the end of the initial 10 days. If it doesn't, then open a ticket to get a "stuck profile" sorted by BT.

Thanks guys, service has been consistent since I moved to ADSL24 but 6 meg+ would be brilliant!.

Hi James,

Any update from the call you logged with BT?

James, thanks for that.

You would not believe how great it is for me to have a stable 2meg service after the pain of Pipex - so despite BT I'm a v.happy customer.

Carry on kicking!

Hi guys,

I'm still 'stuck' on 2meg :(

When are BT likely to fix this? Will you let me know or should I keep asking?

It's ok, we continuously check them every day and pass it back to BT daily.

BT dont do "Timescales" so it's just a case of us keep pushing until they finally fix it. Some profiles are fixed within days, others weeks - there is no set process for it.

If we had control over profiles it would have been fixed within 5 mins of you reporting it...

SS, this just back:

"The profile that BT have their end match up so they do need a CSE sending out. The BRAS profle matches the line sync rate."

Can you reboot the router and post another test please to see if they are telling porkies?

James,

I'm getting a very different response to the BT Speedtester now...

The IP address discovered on the network associated with your telephone number:nnnnnnnnnn, did not match the one we have logged from this browser/connection. Please check your telephone number and try again. If problem persists please contact your CP.

Obviously I've checked my telephone number and the neumber is correct.

That's just one of those BT errors that will sort itself. Absolutely nothing the ISP can do - it will work, keep trying...

Ran the test a couple more times and received a message telling me...

'your configured download speed is 2000K',

followed by the results...

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 6656 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1796 kbps

Just re-booted my router again and re-ran the BT-Test (as I had done last night - see above) but this time I got a very different result...

Your configured throughput speed is 5500K

IP profile for your line is - 5500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7008 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4625 kbps

Yippee:D :D :D
