View Full Version : Connecting Automatically?

Just a small thing I've noticed since joining ADSL24, and it's not that big of a deal...but..maybe some of you will be able to shed some light on this?

We have been doing a bit of decorating and painting here this week, and desks were moved and leads were in and out of walls/equipment at different times.

It seems that each time I break a connection by powering down the router (Netgear DG834G), I'm not able to get back online without going into the router interface and clicking on apply on the settings page. (I'm on a fixed 500 package)

Idle time out is at 0, and the "connect automatically" bit is ticked in as well.

Maybe this is normal??...but I don't think I have had this happen with previous ISP's. Usually router fires back up again and off I go without having to "connect" or do anything.

I've really noticed it this week, because the kids are yelling....Hey, there's no internet..blah-de-blah, and I'm going paintbrush in hand, and you know it's totally urgent that they get back online asap to stare at bebo:eek: :)

It's certainly not normal, no.

It may be worth perhaps resetting the router to default's in case some of its settings are corrupt. Of course make note of your username/password beforehand if you do try that.

We have a number of customers on that router and it's certainly not usual for this to happen. Maybe it's the line that's losing SYNC and not auto-reconnecting to the ISP (ppp session)? How long does the WAN say it's been up on the status page? (Router status > scroll down > click on Connection status)

Hi James.

Well I did a full re-set of the router and it seems to have cured the problem. I pulled the power lead a couple of times there, and popped it back in, and waited till the light stopped flashing...and I was able to get back on-line without visiting the router interface.

I guess little gremlins (or dust-bunnies) got in there...:D

I haven't had to go near the router since I migrated to you, so this little hiccup didn't show up till I started to paint and get all the dust out from behind my desk. I guess even the router didn't like vodafone.:D:D

Thanks for answering so promptly.
