I am considering buying this modem/router (if page was wrongly linked I do apologise but there is an ADSL version of this as i set it up for my uncle not so long ago).
However I am unsure if i am able to use it with my block go 8 static IP's (Yes i know only 5 are usuable). Would anyone here be able to shed some light on this and tell me if this suites my job?
I would like to have 3 PC's with 3 static IP's from the 5 I can use, my current setup has to my knowledge prevented this, as I am unable to turn off the NAT on my Netgear WPN824 V1 router.
Any help is appreciated, thanks :)
Looking at Page 23 of their user manual - ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/dsl_routers_modems/dsl-2740b/Manual.pdf you can turn off NAT which means it should be fine...

Thanks James
I was reading page 39 myself but as it says:
Network Address Translation may be enabled or disabled with the pulldown
menu. Keep in mind that disabling NAT allows only a single
computer to be used for Internet access through the Router. NAT is
enabled and disabled for the Router on all connections (
Wasnt sure with my block of 8IP's would fix that or not I guess it does?
I have a laptop, desktop and usually another pc or that i fix on the side connected to the net.
You have your own block of IPs so you can have up to 5 devices connected when NAT is turned off.
I think it's implying if you have only 1 static IP.

Tham you very much for clearing that up James
Its retailing in Argos at £120 and thats a lot of money for such a little box I was unsure if it would work :)
I'm not 100% sure it will, but what would be the point on turning off NAT if it can't be used properly?

Ah I tried google a week ago and the cheapest was workig out at £105 with PnP but hmm magenta seems to be a new one hmm thank you Paul.
Paul & James keep up this excellent work, love this ISP to bits, perfect so far is the only way I can describe you guys, the help and the quality of service I recieve from ADSL24.
Thank you!!!!
Thought of getting the Linksys Wireless N device. I had a D Link once it broke after about a month, I retuned and swaped for a Linksys WAG54GS (not N standard I know) and its been a complete dream, had it for two years with no problems, only thing it does do though is if i try to reboot it after its been on for a very long time it likes to have 30 seconds of "time to itself". Although I think a great ISP might also help out its reliability!

On another note my ping is pretty good but I am wondering if you guys could try and see if this Fast mode thing can be applied to my line. I game a bit and just want to see the difference in game if its possible.
Sorry if I post this in wrong section but it saves me opening a new thread lol
Done - it will take 24hrs or so :)

I finally purchased the router but still have been unable to set it up with my block of 8 IP's, can anyone help me please as I have followed the ADSL guide but I cant seem to find a RIP/NO-NAT setting..
In the manual does it not show the page to turn NAT off like we originally saw?

It doesnt actaully show how to do it no, I have a later firmware too than the manual so the GUI and available options do differ a fair bt.

I got these stats from the new router, are they good or bad?
Mode : G.DMT
Type: Fast
Line Coding : Trellis On
Status : Link Up
Downstream Upstream
Rate (Kbps) : 5504 448
SNR Margin (dB) : 14.2 21.0
Attenuation (dB) : 40.0 23.0
Pretty good, looksl ike you are on a 15dB SNR profile though. This is stopping you from getting around 6500 instead of 5504 though.

Any way to change this?
I DID have around 6000 before a few weeks back..
And any idea on the RIP/NO-NAT settings?

Well the Interleavin has been off for over a week now and here are my stats again:
Mode : G.DMT
Type: Fast
Line Coding : Trellis On
Status : Link Up
Downstream Upstream
Rate (Kbps) : 5504 448
SNR Margin (dB) : 13.9 21.0
Attenuation (dB) : 40.0 23.0
Output Power (dBm) : 19.8 12.1
K (number of bytes in DMT frame) : 173 15
I notice on the beta.speedtest.net the ping is around the 41 to 45 mark on the London server which is an improvement of 5ms really. I dont know if its better on or off for gaming, Halo is the main game played but for the time being I would prefer to keep it off. Connection seems grand as is :)
Can the SNR be lowered any?
Have you any idea how I can setup the Routed IP on my D-Link 2740B?
