1478 Reduced My Speed

Just recieved my new Netgear DG834.

I have tried several times changing the mtu values at 1492 or 1478. Every time the modem has an MTU of 1478 as specified by adsl24 guide the upload and download speed drop right down:eek: . Any idea why? I have set modem back to 1492 but would like 1478 if this would give faster speeds if problem solved. I have used software TCP Optimizer to set MTU to 1478 which I'm guessing saves having to do this process in windows. Or do I still need to do a windows setting somewhere to fix this problem?

Make sure the RWIN is at a decent level too for that MTU. The 1478 quoted is inly a guideline. Some people use 1400, 1430, 1500 etc and that gives them a bit more speed.... It's dependent on quite a few things...
