View Full Version : Multiple disconnects through the day since switch?

Hi can someone tell me if this is likely to be related to the switch over to murphx from enta?

Back on enta my sync was around the 3700 mark giving me a 3meg profile as it would stay connected for days on end. It was showing 14 days connection up until the switch to murphx and i obviously cant get at my old stats now.

Since the switch to Murphx it will disconnect about 2 or 3 times a day with one of them usually being down to 2500/2800 which has obviously altered my profile. If i leave it a while and either reboot or resync the router using DMT it will come back up synced at 3700ish with a 7db margin.

This has happened since the first day i changed my router login to the new murphx one.

So my question is basically, before i go to support on this one is this likely to be a conincidence and the problem lies somewhere else or is it some problem with my connection to murphx??

few things to note, ive been running routerstats and cant pin it down to a certain time, somethimes middle of the night and sometimes during the day.

Ive reset the router to factory settings & changed the filter.

the filter is plugged directly into the adsl box on the door (front removed to get at the master socket).

Please i hope someone has some input as i suspect support are going to say problem between me and exchange and bt will not recognise it as its not below fault levels.

in the mean time im looking for a replacement router but sofar ive never found one that would give me a sync/profile as high and stable as this old speedtouch 585v6. My exchange seems to be Alcatel equipment according to DMT.

ive been getting a lot of disconnects too since switching...at least couple a day. i contacted support but got usual response about checking filters and the line etc. im inclined to think its their end since i rarely got any disconnects until the day i switched. my speed is normally very good so ive decided not to grumble too much lol. i can handle a couple of disconnects if i can get a decent speed the rest of the time :P

Nothing physical has changed on your line since the switch. If you're losing sync with the exchange this is happening even before it goes through Murphx routers etc.

All BT do when switching ISP is allow you to be able to login with the new username, nothing else.

Be careful, if you keep doing this the DLM is likely to set your target SNR to 15db, it will take days if not weeks for it to return to 6db, DMT may not be able to reduce it.

My disconections started with the change over, went from once every few days to 4 times a day.

But it turns out it was from my router restarting itself. routers tend to fail like any other equipment after a few years.

With my new router ive been connected for over a week.

So i think it was either

A) Coincidence

B) faster usenet speed from changeover making the router overheat

C) We Tend to notice it more cos were looking into the new service.

The only trouble i found looking for a new router is that know matter what router you are recomended, someone else will inform you its crap. i spent ages looking for one and every router has forums with people complaining about something with it.

Hope you fix your trouble

After finally getting away from anyone that uses EntaFail, I switched to an ISP which uses Murphx a few days ago. Am still in the "training period" as I was told when I phoned up to complain about the terrible speeds and frequent disconnections I'm getting.

Connection also seems to be terrible after midnight.

Somehow, I don't think I'm going to last the first month with these very expensive jokers.

Murphx seem no different to EntaFail.

rarely disconnected on entanet, but get lots of disconnections every day now.. but i changed over to adsl2+ at same time as the murphx switch.. i think my line is maxing out.... then it disconnects...drops the profile..then its ok so it raises the profile again.. then maxes out again.lol. just seems to be constantly up and down. today i had 1.3mbs... then 800Kb..then back up to 1.3mbs now its down to 200kbps... but even with the disconnects its still miles better than entashite. lol.

thanks for the replys

Oh yes im VERY carfull about doing this i was stuck at 15db in the past for 12 months the only way i got it back to 6db was to switch to a fixed rate adsl package and backagain just before adsl24 suspended those packages. If it happens again im stuffed i know it and will just have to use next doors

Thats how i understood it worked too so im thinking ill go with Terrex72 aboves option A, Coincidence.

As for a new router im lost here as said above you cant get a good recomendation so ive gone for another speedtouch585v6 offa the ebay as a first option. Going to leave things alone until that turns up and see what difference i get.

Thanks for the replys to this as i know its probably not much use going to support with it.

Since the switch, for short periods of time my service is quite a bit faster than it used to be on Enta, but for the majority of the time it seems to be extremely slow (sub 56kbps). I'm frequently seeing 44kbps download speeds. I'm sure it's no coincidence, I've tried a number of different routers, new cables, and new filters. I use the internet quite a bit for one thing or another (no, not downloads) and it's important to me that it's there when I need it. I hope this is just a "settling in" issue and not indicative of how it's going to be with Murphx. My first impression is that it's unreliable, unfortunately.
