View Full Version : Loss of ADSL Synch over the weekend?

I have been unable to stay online for longer than roughly 30 seconds since about 8 o'clock on Saturday night. Router logs and staring at the lights on the router with hope in my heart, waiting for the red Internet light to turn green have confirmed that I have been losing synch more often than Milli Vanilli live ;)

Phoned tech support on Saturday and the helpful chap on the other end informed me that they couldn't run a diagnostic test as the test card in the BT exchange was not responding, and they have raised it with BT. I was also noticing that when I did get synch for longer than 30 seconds that I was synching in at only 5MB, rather than my usual 8.

Going by my live status however it seems I have been online since 08:19 this morning, roughly 1 minute after I left the house to go to work :D Fingers crossed the issue has been resolved.

This is the second time this has happened, again at the weekend and only since the change to Murphx. Anybody else been noticing something similar at the weekends?

Yes - you are not alone.

Everything seems to be going wrong at the weekends at the minute, they may not be throttling us, but if can't stay online then it equates to the same thing ;)

Update - stayed online all day yesterday, My BT profile however has dropped from 7150 to 4500.

At 5 past midnight, bang, connection lost. This morning my router was telling me that my username and password authentication had failed, so call into tech support again which has been flagged and waiting a call back.

Rebooted the router for possibly the 1000th time and back online at a 6112/448 synch.

Aaargh.

Yupp - I've had the same issue over this weekend too.

connected now but speedtest results are dire 0.13kbps and 0.09kbps when I'm normally in the 7.4MBps range...

rasied a tciket with no response as yet.

@DocStone

Are there any service outages listed for your exchange? you can check here (http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/)

I have an exchange level issue at the moment that is causing the connection to drop, although its just loss of PPP session rather than loss of sync.

Although it does appear that my exchange is routed via North Paddington where BTw had flood & fire damage recently.

I am just finding it strange I can connect 20 minutes after it comes off non-peak (08:19 yesterday, 08:20 today) and stay online until 5 minutes after peak (00:05) last night, and have no joy at all during off peak from 8 o'clock on Saturday night.

That MSO is for the end of last month, so shouldn't really apply now. Unless another issue has occurred at the exchange which isn't listed as an MSO yet.

There is an outstanding Virtual Path issue at that exchange, but that should just mean that bandwidth is at a premium at the exchange and throughput might be restricted, but that shouldn't be causing a loss of sync.

Its probably a good idea to keep a check on the line stats when the issue occurs to see if there are any changes that might highlight what is causing the issue.
I am mainly thinking of large SNR margin variations.

Try and post some stats of when the connection is working fine and also when you get loss of sync, and someone can advise of any obvious issues with the stats if your unsure of any of the details.

It is possible that something kicks in at 8pm and is causing interference with the ADSL signal and that is causing the loss of sync, but what that could be if it has just started happening and also affects things all weekend I have no idea.

Line was up all night with one log off giving me a 15 hour session, the longest in 4 days.

Any idea how long it will take my IP Profile to go back to its original value of 7150?

While you're sync is 6112 it wont-profile for that sync should be 5000
you're just shy of the next band 5500 which is a sync of 6240+

Profile should increase automatically but may take a few days,if you can sync higher again as before(8128) you will get the 7150 back

Since the start of the month (midnight on Friday/Saturday - less than 2 days) I've lost my DSL connection more than 40 times. I phoned in about it earlier this evening, explained I had moved to the test socket, changed the filters but still couldn't keep the connection for more than a couple of minutes - the internet was unusable by then. Guy I spoke to was pleasant but said, as there did not appear to be anything wrong with the line, it must be something your end. I told him my upstream SNRM was way down, actually below my downstream one. He ran some further line test & said there seemed to be a potential fault that he'd passed on to the "network guys" & they'll get back to me tomorrow. Here's hoping! From the time of the phone call the constant disconnects have stopped, just one a short time ago. However, I'm concerned that my target SNRM may be raised as I no longer get my interleaved 7616 sync.

I forgot to ask if I was speaking to ADSL24 tech support or Murphx. Whichever, if it doesn't get resolved soon I'll be looking for pastures new.

edit: Seems to me BT's systems have raised my target SNRM to 12 as a result of all those disconnects so I can kiss goodbye to my 7616 - or the 8128 I used to get before interleaving kicked in. Really pissed off with the way things have gone so I'll be looking around for a new provider over the next few weeks.
