View Full Version : Lag spikes

Ever since the switch to MurphX I've had odd little lag spikes. What I mean is my connection will basically die for say 5 seconds, but it does not drop connection. These aren't noticeable when just browsing, or even downloading or streaming video. However when gaming they are...

In TF2 they result in me freezing for around 5 seconds, then the game manages to resume and keeps playing. It's a pain, but only happened every couple of hours or so and didn't really matter.
However I recently started playing Battlefield BC2, where after the 5 seconds it will drop the connection to the server and I need to reconnect. This is obviously a real pain when trying to play with friends, especially if the server is full and I then need to spend 10 minutes trying to reconnect and get on the right team again...

When it happens there is nothing logged in my router, and according to the ADSL24 live status page I've been on-line since the 28th June, so it sounds fairly safe to say the connection isn't actually dropping.

Does anyone else experience anything similar? or have any suggestions what the issue may be?

Yup me too. Nothing shows in the logs..but during one of the outages, manually disconnecting via the router status pages, will sometimes give me an lcp and/or chap failed error.

Sometimes, it reconnects without much of a delay, and I get back online again.

My lags would be longer than 5 secs, maybe more like 15-30 secs, so yea..I see it even browsing, and it's fairly often as well. And it seems to be getting worse.

Don't know if it's related to yours, but it seems to be something that's not at my end of things.

It's a bit blah really. Will probably throw a ticket in soon about it.

My connection is also constantly dropping and yet adsl24 don't seem to be seeing it from there end. Good luck with the ticket, after 2 days of explaining my problem i've now been told "unfortunately we're off for the weekend, ring tech support instead".

I think it's time for a move.

I think I may try get hold of a spare router and give it a test, since there are lots of variables it would be stupid to just blame it on MurphX without first eliminating my equipment. It just seemed a little suspicious that it started when we changed from Enta to MurphX.

Gamer here, too. I've not noticed any problems like that. Is it worth checking your firewall if you use one?

Not good on Xbox Live as I get a disconnect, also then drop my upload speed also.

So yes, drop outs do happen.

I can't upload anything, i've tried updating my website, uploading to flickr, youtube, vimeo and it just keeps failing. ADSL24 don't seem to want to acknowledge that the problem is their end despite me pointing them to the many threads here.

I don't see what uploading has to do with this?
