View Full Version : Any way to bump the upload speed?

I've recently bought a slightly better, second hand router (a netgear dg834 v3) to replace my old wired-only router, a speedtouch 510 and I was wondering if there is any way up the upload speed to the full 1.4 meg (even at cost of a few megabits of download)?

These are the line stats from the router's page:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 19318 kbps 1075 kbps
Line Attenuation 23 db 5.5 db
Noise Margin 3 db 6 db

(On the old router I got roughly around 900k upload)

Thanks.

Your never actually going to get the full theoretical upstream speed, and judging
from those upstream stats there's not much room for 'tweaking' anyway.

You would probably have been better of getting a Netgear DG834v4 or DG834GT as the broadcom chipset they use tends to be better match to most exchange equipment. And they are more 'tweakable' than the v3 with custom firmware & DMT etc

If you could run DMT (http://dmt.mhilfe.de/) on your router (which you can't with the v3) you would be able to see the Upstream RCO % which would indicate if additional sync were potentially available through tweaking. You can also get this info through telnet on the router.

The v3 uses the Texas chipset which is very good at squeezing every last drop out of a line (and sacrificing stability because of this).

The v4 would allow you to perform more tweaking on the sync rates, but bear in mind that your downstream sync rate may suffer with the Broadcom chipset.

In summary, there is nothing that you can do with a v3 to improve the upstream rate.

Speaking of upload speeds, does anyone know if DGTeam firmware allows you tweak upload performance? I have changed the SNR value on my DG834G v4 but I've not noticed any changes to upload performance.
