Hi folks, at least I hope you are there:)

My neighbor is unable to use Amazon due to the fact that Amazon says that there is already an email address of hers logged.
ie, xxx@hotmail.com
She swears that she has never bought from Amazon and when I try to get any data from the Amazon server I get nowhere because it asks for card details and I am suspicious. After all If she has not used Amazon before........

I have heard of something like this before (I think)

Anybody got ideas:s

If her e-mail address has been compromised wouldn't she be better off getting another one,

Yes she would be better off, but to convince her is another matter
She has a lot of contacts and has asked them all if they have had any emails 'from her' that were suspicious - none.

I just seem to remember reading something similar about hotmail.

To be sure David I still think the best option would be to set up another e-mail address with a very secure password, I know it's a pain and a lot of messing about but it's still the safest option,

Hi Yorkie
Just as a matter of interest I have been trying to make sense of this 'mess'
Amazon have 'her' email address & a password that is unknown to her plus some other data?
She has never received a transactional email from Amazon so the account has not been used to purchase anything
Without being able to answer questions from Amazon (last 6 digits of card No, security, whatever) she cannot use the account
So it makes no sense for this situation to exist. Criminals cannot gain from it.

Can't she just use the Forgot Your Password (https://www.amazon.co.uk/ap/forgotpassword?_encoding=UTF8&openid.assoc_handle=gbflex&openid.return_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.co.uk%2F gp%2Fcss%2Fhomepage%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref_%3Dya_fp&openid.mode=checkid_setup&openid.ns=http%3A%2F%2Fspecs.openid.net%2Fauth%2F2 .0&openid.claimed_id=http%3A%2F%2Fspecs.openid.net%2F auth%2F2.0%2Fidentifier_select&openid.pape.max_auth_age=0&openid.ns.pape=http%3A%2F%2Fspecs.openid.net%2Fext ensions%2Fpape%2F1.0&openid.identity=http%3A%2F%2Fspecs.openid.net%2Fau th%2F2.0%2Fidentifier_select) link?

We have tried that, but it asks for some, not all, card details
Weird

You sure it's not hotmail.co.uk instead of .com? :p I've done that before! :)

Maybe it's worth contacting Amazon and explaining the situation to them.
