View Full Version : Three questions
I am consdering migration to ADSL24 Home 30, but I would like answers to a few things:
I periodically (maybe once a year) need to quickly download up to 5GB. Will I encounter throttling or any other measures which would reduce my conection speed whilst I do one of these downloads?
I will want to put up a website with a secure page, accessible only to those who have the password. Can I do this on the webspace you provide, and if so, how? Do you permit use of .htaccess?
My current ISP seems reluctant to issue a MAC. Whilst I realise you would not want to get involved, can you advise me of any way I can bring pressure to bear on them? I don't believe they belong to any voluntary regulating authority, as their behaviour so far has been pretty disgraceful.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.:)
Hi Pat.
I periodically (maybe once a year) need to quickly download up to 5GB. Will I encounter throttling or any other measures which would reduce my conection speed whilst I do one of these downloads?
No - some people do that all day every day...
I will want to put up a website with a secure page, accessible only to those who have the password. Can I do this on the webspace you provide, and if so, how? Do you permit use of .htaccess?
Yes we do. In fact, in your Control panel you can protect directories easily without having to play with .htaccess if you wish.
My current ISP seems reluctant to issue a MAC. Whilst I realise you would not want to get involved, can you advise me of any way I can bring pressure to bear on them? I don't believe they belong to any voluntary regulating authority, as their behaviour so far has been pretty disgraceful.
All ISP's are legally bound by the new OFCOM rules whereby they have to give you a MAC code free of charge within 5 days. See http://www.ofcom.org.uk/advice/codes/bb_migration/. Which ISP is it?
Thanks :)
Thanks for your quick response.
The current ISP is E7 (as was). They NEVER respond to any help line calls.
To be fair, I gave them notice at the start of this month, and my contract expires at the end of June. As MACs expire after 30 days, they can't issue one until the start of next month. But if I don't get one early in June I will have to give them a hard time about it.
Like many E7 customers I was forced into a contract I didn't really want....so I can't wait to get out
Just make sure they dont "cancel" your account or cease the line as this menas a MAC code can't be generated and your line will be cleared - meaning you will end up paying an activation fee to get a new ISP...

Thanks for the advice. I will be nice as pie unless they really don't want to play ball. Unfortunately I also have the LLU cost when I migrate away from them....
To be truthful, their broadband service has been OK. It's the attitude and (lack of)customer service I can't stomach.
I will be signing up for your service early next month.
E7 have you on LLU? Bummer :(

As far as I know E7 customers were taken over by EzeeDSL, who are owned by 186K (the nightmare ISP that us ex-EFH'ers fled from!) and all were then shoved onto Tiscali's LLU system, and no one had any choice in the matter
Yes, spot-on. Unfortunately I could not be without a connection for 30 days, which was what they were offering if I did not take up their "offer".
Yeah. At least we can accept LLU MAC codes with no downtime involved.
Still trying to migrate in, and despite giving notice to Ezeedsl, I have not yet got a MAC from them.
Just looked at their website and found this:
"As a result of BT introducing an ADSL cease charge, we are amending our terms and conditions. We hereby give you notice of the amendment which will be effective from 00.00am on Friday 1st June 2007 :
Cease clause to be amended as follows:
a. In the event that we receive a BT or third party broadband provider initiated cease notification for your broadband service you acknowledge that you will be responsible for all charges on your account to date of cease including an additional ADSL cease charge of £33.75
b. If you, and or we, request a cancellation or cease for your ADSL service, you will be responsible for all charges outstanding on your account to date of cease including an additional ADSL cease charge of £33.75
Should there be any inconsistency between your old cease clause and the new cease clause then the new cease clause prevails. Should your current terms not reflect a cease clause this is now included in your terms and conditions as a new clause "Cease Clause" as the final point/clause."
I hope they all catch something really, really unpleasant.
I feel a communication with OFCOM coming on.
They can't just do what the hell they like to T&Cs can they? Can they just make it a thousand pounds or a million if they feel like it? They request a cease and I have to pick up the bill??
They certainly won't get anything from my worldpay agreement. I already cancelled that.
Pat
The new charge from BT about the cease stands for all ISP's. We however are absorbing the cease fee and not passing it on to end users.

I'm also ex E7 and migrated to ADSL24 on 11th May 2007. I signed up with EzeeDSL on 3rd July 2006 for exactly the same reasons as you but decided to jump the EzeeDSL ship a couple of months early, even though I'd paid for the 12 months up-front (to get the initial discount).
Using EzeeDSL's Medusa portal I asked for a MAC at 10:15am on 2nd May 2007 and received notice of the Mac at 11:02 on the same day, so can't complain about that. I "picked up" the MAC from Medusa. It was very painless and the most efficient thing I've seen from EzeeDSL so I can't understand why you are having difficulties getting a MAC.
I cancelled my WorldPay FuturePay agreement, just in case, and used the MAC with ADSL24 later the same day. I was migrated at around midday 11th May and received an email from EzeeDSL at 17:01 to say no money was owed and my "order had been cancelled".
All that being said, I was not on LLU. (Surfer_chick: It's not true that all ex E7 customers were shoved to LLU. I guess just those who were already there with E7.)
Pat - What exactly is the problem that you are having in getting away from EzeeDSL?
ebuygum,
I tried at the weekend to use Medusa. Ezeedsl had sent me about 6 different user ID / password combinations - most of which worked - but none had my phone number in the drop-down box for MAC requests.
I have just finished a phone call with a gentleman in India who directed me to yet another portal, gave me a user ID/password, and I have now successfully submitted a MAC request. :) I also have a confirmation email from them.
So I am quietly hopeful that this will get resolved soon. I don't believe I owe them a bean, but their website tells me I owe one month of money (their last invoice said I had paid up until the end of July!!) I have been with them for a year, and gave notice as indicated in their T&C, so I don't expect to be paying any more.
Anyway, with luck I will be getting migrated in the coming days
Pat
Sounds good. Unless they've changed things you should get another email saying your MAC is ready. You'll then have to log into the same portal and you'll find the MAC in the same area as where you requested it.
Good luck. (It's like a breath of fresh air here!)
Just got my MAC. Took less than a day after ezeedsl finally acknowledged the request. What a shame their last act should be the only thing they are efficient at.
AND I just placed my migration order with adsl24 :):)
Welcome to ADSL24 Pat,

welcome to adsl24 Pat
As ebuygum has said. It is really a 'breath of fresh air' in here
Customer service is especially good
Hope you enjoy your broad band experience here
Regards
Simon
Activated one day early. So far the router is reporting 7616mbps think I can put up with that! My old ISP tried to bill me for another month today - not too easy for them to do after I cancelled the worldpay agreement - and I gave notice at the start of May.
So far this is just what I hoped for. Nice one, adsl24.
Excellent - welcome officially to ADSL24 :D
