Hi Guys,

I recently purchased a new system and the motherboard i got on the website where i purchased it, it listed the motherboard as accepting 800/1066 FSB. I got it based on this information so i can take full advantage of the core2duo. However i then found out, the motherboard is clocked at 800 FSB Maximum but can be clocked to do 1066. So i thought hmmm, i want to do it as there will be a performance difference somewhat. What do you think guys? Heres what MSI said to me:

Dear Sir/Madam,

According to the Intel North Bridge 945PL chipset spec, this board supports CPU of FSB 800MHz at maximum by default . However, you may let your board running at FSB 1066MHz (Core 2 Duo CPUs) by overclocking and adjusting the CPU FSB frequency in the BIOS:

Enter BIOS setup menu and go to [Cell_Menu] --> [Adjust CPU FSB Frequency]. There you can adjust the value to [266] for the Core 2 Duo E6300/E6400/E6600/E6700 CPUs.

Please be noted that this is over-spec, and this overclocking behavior is not recommended and guaranteed. This is for PCB 2.2 only. So we don't recommend you overclock to use. Please go to bios to Load Optimized Defaults & Save.

Best regards,
MSI Technical Support Team

Any help would be appreciated, thanks :). I thought it would be worth it as the cpu can take up to 1066 FSB.

HI Jack91

Can you post full model details for your Mobo:
Also check out the msi forums and do a search for your mobo, your bound to find some users posting there results with diffrent setting for that particular board. now In my experience, and of course this does depend on the board" you can try the settings and see what happens' the worst usualy is it will not boot and you may need to reset the cmos to factory defaults. The user manual will explain how to do this. it will be just a case of moving a jumper to a diffrent position on the mobo for a few seconds
after powering down your pc and removing the power lead. if your board boots ok and you do not get any strange behaviour in windows, then the chances are the settings are good. you always know when something is not right. But without knowing for sure what board you have I would not recommend clocking it untill you have some more info for us :-) good luck.

From what I have read' with your current setup you should have no problems at all with the FSB set at 1066/mhz, I think MSI are just covering there arse :-) And as plonker say's, go over to www.overclockers.co.uk (http://adsl24.co.uk/forum/redirector.php?url=%68%74%74%70%3a%2f%2f%77%77%77% 2e%6f%76%65%72%63%6c%6f%63%6b%65%72%73%2e%63%6f%2e %75%6b) if you are not sure! good luck :->
And dont forget to post how it goes :-)
